20th Anniversary @ Windscape in Swift Current, SK!
We're Heading to Windscape, and This Year Is Special
June 20-21, 2026 | Swift Current, Saskatchewan | Free Admission
There are kite festivals, and then there is Windscape.
The SaskPower Windscape Kite Festival in Swift Current, Saskatchewan is the largest kite festival in Western Canada. Quite possibly the largest in the entire country. We've been going since the very beginning, and we can say without hesitation: if you've never been, this is your year to go.
Because 2026 is the 20th anniversary. And that means the sky over Swift Current on June 20th and 21st is going to be something to remember.
You'll Find Us on the Field
Bud and Sharon are both returning this year as celebrity kiters. Watch for Bud zipping across the field in his kite buggy, powered by a large power-foil kite. He may also have a few show kites up, some reaching sizes that make people stop mid-sentence and stare. Sharon will be flying her own designs, including some of the custom kites she's been working on. If you see the sky filling up fast, you've probably found her section of the field.
We love this festival for the same reason we've loved it every single year since 1998. The people are wonderful. The wind is real. And there's nowhere else in Canada where you'll see this many serious kite flyers gathered in one place: over 40 of them, from across Canada and around the world, all sharing the same piece of Saskatchewan sky.
What to Expect
The festival grounds are at 11 Avenue SW and Marston Street in Swift Current, and admission is always free.
Celebrity Kiters: Watch world-class kite flyers in action, from show kites and stunt flying to precision quad-line performances. There's something happening on the field every hour of both days.
Kite Building Workshop: Want to build a kite and fly it the same afternoon? This is the place. All ages welcome.
Children's Activities: Plenty of hands-on things for the little ones, including colouring contests and beginner flying areas. "There are no crabby people at a kite festival." That's a direct quote from a regular attendee, and it's true every year.
Windscape Market: Food, kites, and a good browse. If you've been thinking about picking up a new kite, there are worse places to do it than surrounded by people who genuinely know their stuff.
Kinetic Sculpture Garden: Local artists display wind-powered sculpture alongside the kite field. Worth the walk.
Long Day's Night Music Festival: Each evening wraps up with live music as part of the concurrent Long Day's Night festival. Full day, full night.
A 20th Anniversary Worth the Drive
We've watched this festival grow from the ground up. The Windscape team has built something genuinely remarkable for Swift Current and for kiting in Canada. Twenty years in, it only keeps getting better.
If you're coming and want to talk kites, ask questions, or just say hello, look for us on the field. We're easy to spot. Bud will be the one in the buggy.
See you in Swift Current.
