Alberta's First Granary Road Kite Festival Is Coming, and We'll Be There

Something exciting is happening in the skies over southern Alberta this spring.

Granary Road, the beloved 36-acre Active Learning Park just minutes south of Calgary, is hosting its very first Kite Festival on May 16 and 17, 2026. And The Kite Guys are proud to be part of it.

This is exactly the kind of event we live for: families gathering in an open field, kites climbing into a big blue Alberta sky, and people of all ages discovering what it feels like to fly something with their own hands. If that sounds like a good Saturday to you, read on.

What to Expect

The Granary Road Kite Festival is a two-day celebration of wind, colour, and the simple joy of getting outside. Here's what's in store:

Kite Building Sessions: Bring the kids, roll up your sleeves, and build a kite from scratch. There's something special about flying something you made yourself.

Flying Lessons: New to kiting? First time holding a line? That's exactly what this is for. Hands-on instruction to get anyone airborne.

Spectacular Shows: Watch experienced flyers put precision and show kites through their paces. These are the kinds of displays that make people stop walking and stare.

Open Flying Area: Plenty of room to launch your own kite and share the sky with everyone else. Bring what you've got, or pick something up on-site.
